It's one of the questions we get the most: "My battery doesn't last long, what can I do?"
Good news: 80% of the time, it can be fixed. No need to replace the battery right away. Here is what really works.
1. Turn off background refresh (BOOM, +2-3h of battery life)
It sounds silly, but it changes everything. Your apps keep refreshing all the time, even when you're not using them.
How to do it:
Settings → General → Background App Refresh → Turn off for power-hungry apps (social media, news, Email)
Result: We've seen customers gain 2-3h of battery life from this alone. Seriously.
2. Use Dark Mode 80% of the time
Your iPhone has an OLED screen. Every black pixel uses NO battery at all. White pixels? A lot.
The trick: Keep Dark Mode on permanently. Yes, every day. Getting used to it is easy (a week at most).
Gain: 15-20% more battery life, especially if you look at your screen a lot.
3. Lower the brightness and turn on adaptive brightness
I know, it sounds simple, but 30% of users leave their brightness at 100%.
Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Brightness: ON
It's a small tweak that makes a big difference. The screen adjusts automatically to the ambient light.
Gain: 20-25% battery.
4. Turn off location for apps that don't need it
Maps, yes. Instagram? Honestly, no.
How to do it:
Settings → Privacy → Location Services → App by app → "Never" or "While Using the App"
Tip: The only apps that should have "Always" are Maps or your fitness app.
Gain: 10-15% battery life.
5. Understand your battery's REAL health
Here is what 90% of people don't know: the battery percentage you see is NOT your battery's actual health.
Here's the difference:
- Percentage: How much battery you have right now (0-100%)
- Battery health: How worn your battery is after all its charges (degradation)
How to check:
Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging
You'll see something like "Maximum Capacity: 89%". It means that after X charges, your battery holds 89% of what it held when new.
Is that normal?
- 95%+: Practically like new
- 80-94%: Very good condition
- 70-79%: Fair, but keep an eye on it
- Below 70%: Think about replacing it
At Relab, every iPhone's battery health is shown on its product page, so you know exactly what you're buying. You can also ask for a new battery as an option (+300 DH).
BONUS: The thing Apple doesn't want you to know
Charging to 100% and draining to 0%? Bad for the battery in the long run.
What to do:
- Charge up to 80-85%
- Drain down to 20%
It extends the life of the battery by several months. Seriously.
On modern iPhones, there's even "Optimized Battery Charging" in the settings. Turn it on.
When do you really need to replace the battery?
- Battery health < 70%
- You go from 100% to 20% in 4-5h even with all these tricks
- The device shuts off at 30% battery
At that point, you're better off replacing the battery or switching to a pre-owned premium iPhone at Relab.
Got a pre-owned iPhone with a weak battery?
If the battery of your Relab iPhone doesn't work properly during the 12-month warranty, we replace it. Normal battery wear is not a fault: to start over with a new battery, choose the new battery option (+300 DH) when you buy.
