Your iPhone took a fall. Or the battery no longer lasts the day. Or it's slowing down. The unavoidable question: do I repair it or replace it?
Here's the simple rule to decide in 5 minutes.
Situation 1: The battery is dead (health < 80%)
Repair if your iPhone is less than 3 years old and in good overall condition.
- Battery replacement: 300-500 DH depending on the model
- Your phone will get its original performance back
- ✅ Repair it
Replace if your iPhone is more than 4-5 years old.
- The replacement cost + the other problems that will follow = replacing is cheaper
- ✅ Replace it and sell your current iPhone to Relab to fund the next one
Situation 2: The screen is cracked
Simple calculation:
- Screen repair price (400-1,500 DH depending on the model)
- VS the price of an equivalent pre-owned model at Relab
If the repair costs more than 40% of the price of an equivalent pre-owned model, replace it.
Example: iPhone 13 with a cracked screen
- iPhone 13 screen repair: ~1,200 DH
- iPhone 13 pre-owned Grade A at Relab: ~4,000 DH
- Ratio: 30% → Repair it (if the rest of the iPhone is in good condition)
Example: iPhone 11 with a cracked screen
- Screen repair: ~1,000 DH
- iPhone 11 pre-owned: ~2,200 DH
- Ratio: 45% → Replace it, sell your cracked iPhone 11 and get a 13
Situation 3: iPhone that's slowing down
Before replacing, try:
1. Free up storage: More than 80% full → degraded performance
2. Restart it: Mundane but effective
3. Reset settings: Not your data, just the configuration
4. Check battery health: A degraded battery slows down the whole iPhone
If after these 4 steps your iPhone is still slow AND it's more than 5 years old → replace it.
The 3-situation rule, summarized
| Situation | Age < 3 years | Age 3-5 years | Age > 5 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dead battery | Repair | Repair | Replace |
| Cracked screen | Calculate the ratio | Calculate the ratio | Probably replace |
| Slowdown | Optimize first | Optimize, then decide | Replace |
